Customs seizes gold paste worth `9.19L at Dabolim

The Goa Customs officials on Sunday seized 304 grams of gold paste worth Rs 9.19 lakh  at Dabolim airport under the provisions of Customs Act 1962. They also apprehended a passenger who arrived from Sharjah by Air Arabia flight.

According to R Manohar, Commissioner of Customs, said “Based on suspicion, the Air Customs officers of Goa headed by Deepak Gawai, Assistant Commissioner of Customs (Airport) apprehended an international passenger, arrived from Sharjah by Air Arabia Flight No G9-492 and recovered 304 grams gold paste approximately valued at Rs 9,19,478.” He said the gold paste was found concealed in the under garments (briefs) worn by the passenger.

Since April 2018, the Customs of Goa Commissionerate has seized gold worth Rs 263.78 lakh and foreign currency equivalent to Rs 75.14 lakh at Dabolim international airport.   

The whole exercise was conducted under the overall guidance of R Manohar, Commissioner of Customs. Further investigation is under progress.
